DreamzAR review: cost, AR mode and alternatives

DreamzAR is published by ImmEx Technologies, Inc. and sells three different design tools inside one app. Its App Store listing describes them as an "AI Landscape Design Stylist" that generates a design from your yard photo, a "2D Photo Design Editor" with a catalogue of 2000+ plants and features you drag onto the photo, and "3D Augmented Reality (AR)" that puts life-size plants into your camera view.

Very few products in this category do all three. Most pick one: generators generate, placement tools place. Doing three means each is competing for the same development attention, which is worth holding in mind later in this review.

One housekeeping note, because this niche is a swamp of similar names. The app is listed as "DreamzAR AI Landscape Design". Our own product is called AI Landscape Design and is a different app from a different publisher. If you searched the brand and landed here, you have not landed on DreamzAR's own site.

Two prices, read from DreamzAR's pricing page on August 21, 2026: $19.99 a month, or $199 a year, which the page presents as $16.60 a month billed annually. The same two prices apply on iOS, Android and the web app.

That $199 puts DreamzAR near the top of the consumer visualiser bracket. For comparison, the App Store listing shows a yearly plan at $199.99 alongside something the pricing page never mentions: consumable credit packs at $9.99, $12.99 and $14.99, a "DreamzAR full version" at $9.99, and an asset pack at $9.99. The web pricing promises "Unlimited AI designs"; the store is still selling credits. Those two things can both be true — legacy purchases live on store listings for years — but a buyer should know before they tap.

This is the sharpest practical difference between DreamzAR and most of its rivals, and it takes some care to state accurately.

The app itself is free to download — the App Store listing shows "Free" with in-app purchases. But DreamzAR's pricing page lists no free tier and no free trial. Its own pricing FAQ describes exactly two options, monthly and annual, and says nothing about trying the AI generator before you pay. We could not determine from any published page how many designs, if any, a non-subscriber gets. That may well be generous inside the app; it is simply not stated anywhere we could read.

We think a product should tell you this on the pricing page. AI Landscape Design gives 3 free designs at full resolution, no card, no watermark, and says so before you download.

We do not have AR. Our app has none at all, so take the credit here as genuine rather than grudging: for two specific problems, augmented reality beats every flat image, including ours.

The first is scale. A render can show you a Japanese maple by the fence and give you no reliable sense of whether it will read as a shrub or block the kitchen window in eight years. Standing in the yard with a life-size 3D model in the camera view answers that in seconds. DreamzAR's own description promises exactly this — "Place life-size plants in your actual yard."

The second is placement distance. How far off the deck does the fire pit actually need to be before the seating stops feeling cramped? You cannot judge that from a photo. You can judge it by walking around it. The same description mentions measuring areas and getting cost estimates, which is the natural extension of standing there with a tape measure that already knows the geometry.

AR is a measuring instrument dressed as a design tool, and the distinction matters.

It does not help you decide. If your question is whether the yard wants a gravel courtyard or a lawn with deep borders, AR gives you nothing until you have already chosen one and started placing objects in it. Comparing two whole directions means building two whole scenes.

It does not compose. Twelve accurately scaled 3D plants dropped into a camera feed look like twelve accurately scaled 3D plants, not a garden. Composition — where the beds break, how the edge reads, what the eye lands on — is the designer's job, and AR hands it back to you.

It does not photograph well. The output is a live session on your phone, not a picture you can send to a partner or a contractor. And it is physically committing: you have to be outside, holding the phone up, in your own yard, in the weather.

DreamzAR's AI mode does what ours does: photo in, restyled yard out. Its homepage frames the result as "AI Transformed in 30 seconds" and offers 38+ garden styles; AI Landscape Design returns a redesigned yard in about 10 seconds across 18 styles.

But DreamzAR ships one thing we do not, and it is a real advantage: chat refinement. Its App Store listing advertises telling the AI "Add more flowers near the fence" and having it adjust the design. That is the missing step in every one-shot generator, ours included. If a generated yard is 80% right, our answer is to run it again and hope; theirs is to describe the fix.

Whether it works well in practice we cannot tell you — we have not run it. But as a feature on paper, it is the better design of the two, and pretending otherwise would waste your time.

Three figures do not line up between DreamzAR's marketing site and its own store listing, and a buyer should see all three rather than one.

Garden styles: the homepage says 38+ garden styles. The App Store description says 20+ garden styles. Ratings: the homepage displays "4.8 Rating" without naming a source; the App Store listing on August 21, 2026 shows 3.0 out of 5 from 143 ratings. Reach: the homepage says "10,000+ Yards Transformed", while the Google Play listing sits in the 1K+ install band.

None of these is proof of anything dishonest. Store descriptions go stale, a 4.8 could be an in-app survey, and yards transformed is not installs. But when a marketing page and a store page disagree, the store page is the one under review by a third party, and that is the one we would weight.

This one is a fair buyer consideration rather than a criticism, so here are the dates.

The App Store listing shows version 6.1, released February 1, 2026 — around six and a half months before this review — and its release note reads "Fixed crash issue with 2D Landscape Design Feature while placing ground cover." The Google Play listing shows a last update of February 23, 2026. The app first shipped in January 2022, so it is a mature product, not an abandoned experiment.

Six months without a release is not abandonment. Plenty of good small-team apps ship twice a year. But in a category where the underlying image models change every few months, it does mean the AI you subscribe to today is the AI of last winter, and the most recent shipped change on record was a crash fix rather than a feature.

Two things on DreamzAR's pricing page will catch some buyers out.

The first is that AR is iOS only. The platform comparison table marks 3D AR Mode against iOS and not against Android or web, and the page's own guidance says to choose iOS "if you have an iPhone or iPad and want AR mode". Since AR is the strongest reason to pick this product over a plain generator, an Android buyer is paying the same $199 for the version without the headline feature.

The second is worse. The page states plainly that "Subscriptions are platform-specific and cannot be transferred between apps" — an iOS subscription does not work on the web app, and vice versa. Buy the wrong one and you buy it twice. Both facts are disclosed, which is more than some competitors manage, but they are disclosed on the pricing page rather than at the paywall.

Pick DreamzAR if you have already chosen a direction and your remaining questions are physical: how tall that tree gets, whether the pergola clears the window, how much room the seating really needs. AR answers those, you are on iOS, and $199 a year is inside your project budget. That is a real job and nothing we make does it.

Pick AI Landscape Design if you have not chosen yet. Seeing your own yard as a Japanese courtyard, a prairie planting and a paved terrace inside a minute is a different exercise, and it is the one most people are doing first. We have no AR, no plant catalogue and no chat refinement — we do one thing.
