PRO Landscape review: cost, Windows and who it fits

PRO Landscape+ is desktop software for people who sell landscaping for a living. Drafix Software has published it since 1994, and the current release bundles five things into one licence, per its own software page: photo imaging, an easy-to-use CAD drawing tool, 3D rendering, night and holiday lighting design, and proposal creation.

The order those sit in matters more than the list. You photograph the customer's property, drop real products onto the picture, draw the scaled plan, take the materials off that plan at your own prices and tax rate, and print a document with a cover sheet, a quotation and plant detail. The design is the front end of a bid.

That is a different job from the one a consumer app does, and it is worth saying before any price comparison. Nothing in this review argues our app replaces it.

Two prices, read from Drafix Software's buy-now page on August 21, 2026: $900 a year on the annual plan, marked "Save $180", or $90 a month billed monthly. Both tiers carry the same list — free software updates and upgrades, free technical support, free online training seminars, and the free mobile Companion app.

There is no downloadable free trial. The page that looks like one, the demo page, is a "Request More Info" form: it collects your details and offers an online demo with their team, or a monthly subscription if you are ready to try it. So the cheapest way to actually put hands on the software is $90.

Training is priced separately. The PRO Landscape+ Fundamentals class is a two-day classroom session at $695 per person. Video tutorials and subscriber webinars are free. A first year with the class costs $1,595.

The system requirements page asks for a 64-bit version of Microsoft Windows 10 or Windows 11, a 64-bit Intel, AMD or equivalent processor, 6 GB of RAM minimum, 1024×768 video and 15 GB of free disk space. The buy-now page repeats it in a line of its own: "Compatible with Windows 10/11 Only".

There is no native macOS build. Drafix says many Mac users run it through Parallels Desktop with Windows 10 or 11, that it does not support that configuration or those vendors, but that it will still answer questions about PRO Landscape+ regardless of the machine underneath.

Price that honestly. A Mac shop pays for the subscription, pays for Parallels, pays for a Windows licence, and carries the support risk on the layer in between. If your crew runs on MacBooks and iPads, that is the first line of the budget, not a footnote.

Photo imaging is the module people buy this for. Drafix states a library of more than 19,000 photographs of plants, grass, mulch, hardscapes, water features and outdoor kitchens that you drag onto a picture of the customer's property. It is manual placement, the same interaction as iScape — our iScape review covers what placing every object by hand costs you in time.

The CAD module draws scaled plans with plant symbols, pavers, walls and irrigation, and feeds a material take-off. Proposals are generated from either the photo image or the CAD plan, using your prices and your tax rate. The 3D module converts a scaled drawing, or a photo image, into a walkthrough. Night lighting drops fixtures onto a photo taken in daylight.

The chain is the value. Very few tools connect a picture to a priced document, and no consumer AI app does.

Drafix has bolted generative features onto the suite. Its AI page lists an AI Eraser that removes existing landscaping for renovation projects, an AI Cutout tool for adding objects, an AI Outdoor Living Designer that generates patios, outdoor kitchens, fire pits, pergolas and pools from photos, a Paver Designer, 3D scene enhancement, and rendering treatments including Photo Enhanced, Evening Lighting, Watercolor and Colored Pencil Sketch. There is also "Ask Wayne", an assistant for questions about the software.

The page states no separate price, no generation allowance and no model detail, and says more tools are coming. The honest position is that we could not determine what the limits are. If generation volume matters to how you work, ask before you subscribe.

None of it is a reason to pay $900 if a concept image is all you want.

Two tablet products, and they are not the same thing. The Companion app is listed as "FREE for PRO Landscape+ Users" on the tablet apps page and moves designs between tablet and desktop. The Contractor app is a standalone iPad and Android tool for designing and bidding on site, sold on a monthly or annual subscription the website does not price.

The App Store does. The PRO Landscape Contractor listing is a free download with two in-app purchases named Contractor Image Library, at $39.99 and $399.99, unlocking "over 17,000 high quality photos" — a smaller figure than the desktop page's 19,000. There is also a homeowner version, PRO Landscape Home, free with a $14.99 image library and last updated in January 2021.

Both score badly on tiny samples: Contractor 1.8 out of 5 from 12 ratings, Home 1.6 from 16. Twelve ratings prove little. A 2021 update date is a firmer signal.

Our app is a different class of tool and this comparison is only useful if we say so plainly. AI Landscape Design takes a photo of a yard, applies one of 18 styles, and returns the whole space reworked in about 10 seconds, with the house, fence line and driveway held where they are. That is the entire product.

It does not draw a scaled plan. There is no CAD, no material take-off, no irrigation symbols, no estimating and no proposal output. It cannot price a job, cannot produce a plant schedule, and will not hand you a document to give a client. If you sell landscaping, it is a concept tool that sits before the bid, not the thing that produces the bid.

Buy PRO Landscape+ if landscaping is your business, you run Windows, and what you are short of is a priced proposal with a picture attached. Use AI Landscape Design if you are a homeowner working out what your yard should become, or a pro who wants three directions to put in front of a client before anyone draws anything. It is a fraction of the price and it does a fraction of the work.

Nobody should pay $900 to generate pretty pictures. Nobody should expect a phone app to produce a quotation. Buy for the output you need.
